# Shiny Pokémon

Shiny Pokémon are rare variants with an alternate color palette and dazzling particle effects.

**Wild spawns** have a base Shiny chance of $$\frac{1}{4096} \approx 0.0244%$$, and can be increased with several spawn chance modifiers.

## Chance Modifiers

All wild Shiny chance modifiers are applied **additively** to the base chance:

$$

Example (70% boost with a 10% boost):

$$

Catch Combos are one of the strongest *active* ways to raise your wild Shiny odds, scaling up to **+70%** at a combo of **100**.

## Boosted Shiny Encounters

### Outbreaks

Outbreak spawns have a $$\frac{1}{300} \approx 0.33%$$ chance to be Shiny and are **not affected** by other Shiny chance modifiers. When you see the message *“The Outbreak is reducing”* the Outbreak Shiny chance is **doubled** to $$\frac{1}{150} \approx 0.66%$$.

### Rustles

Rustle spawns have a $$\frac{1}{481.88} \approx 0.207%$$ chance to be Shiny and are **not affected** by other Shiny chance modifiers.

#### Fishing

When reeling in a Pokémon, there is a $$\frac{1}{500} \approx 0.2%$$ chance it will be Shiny. This chance can be increased with:

* [Shiny Rod](/features/fishing/perks.md#rod-perks) perk upgrades
* [Shiny Lure](/features/fishing/supplies.md#lures) supply item (guarantees your next 2 catches will be Shiny)
* [Spawn Beacon](/features/fishing/supplies.md#gadgets) gadget (quadruples the chance of a Legendary, Shiny, and Apex Boss when you catch a Pokémon)

Shiny Rod perk boosts are applied the same way as other Shiny modifiers (additively to the base chance). For example, if you have an **80%** total Shiny boost and a **Tier 15 Shiny Rod** with **two Shiny Rod Augments** equipped (25 perk points), you gain an additional **5.2%** Shiny boost.

No, egg shininess uses its own rules and is **not increased** by other chance modifiers.

#### Does catching a Shiny break my Catch Combo?

No, catching a Shiny does not reset your combo.
