Essence is a rare drop used for some of the most powerful perk upgrades and supplies. Essence can be found in three qualities (Normal, Refined, Pure) and six types: Lucky, Wise, Treasure, Charm, Luster, Fortune.

Normal and Refined Essence can be exchanged at the Fishing Craftsman at a 10:1 rate (up or down). Pure Essence is only obtainable from a catch.
The Fortune Hook and Essence Magnet perks can increase the quality and quantity of caught Essence.
Rings guarantee that caught Essence will be a particular type.
Catch Chance
Essence has a base catch chance of 2%, which can be increased by the following
Fishing during a Fortune Storm (+2%)
Fishing at a Fishing Hotspot with an Essence Chance buff (+2%)
Upgrading the Essence Chance perk (up to +2%)
Activating an Essence Lure (+100%)
